Vegan Can Be Affordable

About 10-12 years ago my friend and I tried to give up meat. We called it the "Vegetarian Club" and what happened in the Vegetarian Club stayed in the Vegetarian Club. Which meant that if we really wanted a burger we could have one as long as we didn't tell anyone else. Lol. Well, that lasted for about three weeks and we just could not do it anymore. I remember that time and how it was so difficult to find food that actually tasted good. Fast forward to today. As a vegan, I am so excited about the options we have nowadays. Options that are so easily accessible to everyone! I don't have to go to a specialty store to find food. I can just go to my local Publix or produce store to find what I need. I don't have to pay an arm and a leg because the product is so rare. Being vegan is so affordable and super easy. I am even surviving when I go out to eat. Now there is still one issue I have with some restaurants, and that is charging extra for vegan products. Stop doi

What if I don't want to give up meat?

I am glad you asked! I do believe everyone has a choice and I also believe that no one can make a good choice without being informed. So here you go, what if you don't want to give up meat? What if you don't want to become a vegan? There are still many choices you can make to better your life, the life of your loved ones, and the life of animals. 1. Try to buy your meat, dairy, and eggs from a local, reputable farmer. I am always weary of places that will not allow people on their farms. It makes me wonder what they are hiding. 2. Educate yourself on where your food comes from. If you are buying from a grocery store, ask yourself some of these questions. How are the animals treated? Are they given antibiotics and hormones? What conditions do they live in? What are they fed? Remember, what they are fed you are eating. 3. Consider eating more fruits and veggies. As you eat more, you will become full and naturally you will eat less meat. Think about it as ADDING something to

That's So Cheesy!

Let's talk CHEESE! Everyone Loves Cheese! Well, most everyone. What is the common response when people find out you are vegan? I don't know about you but I usually get something like, "I could never go vegan. I love cheese too much!" Cheese. You know why people love cheese so much? Because it is addictive. Yep, I said it. That dirty word no one ever wants to talk about. Cheese actually has a chemical in it that makes you want to go back to it. So essentially, it's not your fault. You come by it honestly. I am actually a recovering Cheese Addict. Hello. My name is Holly and I am/was addicted to cheese.  My mom makes this killer homemade Mac and Cheese. In fact, it was my favorite and every time I came home to visit I would always request she make it for me. She, of course, knew to always buy more cheese than she really needed because I would definitely be cutting of slices from the blocks of cheese as soon as I got there. I wanted cheese on everything! It made

5 Things That Change When You Become Vegan

This is just my rough list of a few things I have noticed along my journey. Enjoy! #1. Your Relationships Change. Many social interactions occur around food. We've all heard that people tend to "gather in the kitchen". When you decide to cut out all animal products you really tend to shine a very bright spotlight on yourself. Sure, you can still hang out but you will noticeably be the odd ball. You will be the one who eats nothing at the event because you ate earlier knowing there would be no food for you. If you do find that one thing you can eat, you are eye-balling it all night hoping it doesn't run out because those meat-eaters are eating it too! When you do find that one thing, you are then bombarded with questions as to why that is the only thing you are eating and people telling you how great all the other stuff is and you should try it. You then politely decline and then people just assume you are on a "diet". Then you get people telling you "

Don't Be Crazy!

As a mainly "ethical" vegan, I can be found trying to enlighten my sphere of influence to the cruelty that is going on in the world. Videos and pictures depicting the torture that animals face on a daily basis can be found on my Facebook and Instagram accounts. Alternative food choices flood my social media along with mouth watering pictures to help people realize that being vegan is not just about eating tofu every meal. I want people to realize that a vegan diet can be just as delicious as their animal filled dishes. I throw in a few facts about the amazing health benefits of eating plant-based for those who are mostly concerned with being healthy. I do all of this as a means to get the word out. I want people to start thinking about what they are eating and how it is affecting them, animals, and the environment. Now what I don't do is Go Crazy! Every single post on social media is not about cruelty to animals. I do not bombard my family, friends, and followers with gr

But What Can I Dunk My Oreo In?!

When I became Vegan I actually became Vegetarian. I didn't quit every animal product right away. I decided I would take out meat first and replace it with substitutes. I tried several brands before resting on Gardein as my favorite. Although I try to limit the use of substitutes now, I do enjoy most of their products and they are still my "go to" when I want something "meat-like". Sounds weird that a Vegan would want something that resembles meat right? Well, I was raised on meat and ate animal products my whole life until 2015. So, yes, I do still sometimes crave a burger or chicken.  As I learned more about the factory farming of animals and the way they were treated, I decided to take out all animal products when at home. This way I was able to control the ingredients in my food and not have to ask a million questions to the server at a restaurant. I was still very hesitant to "cause problems" while I was ordering from a restaurant. I felt as thoug

Being Vegan In A Meat-Eater's World

Since this is my first post, I figured I would talk about why I named my blog "Being Vegan In A Meat-Eater's World". I have been vegan for a little over 2 years. Everyone asks me why I became vegan and the simple answer is, The Animals. Yes, I am on the side of vegans that "do it for the animals". It all started when someone innocently recommended a Netflix documentary to me. It didn't have anything to do with veganism but what it did have was suggestions of what else to watch when I was finished with that film. Well, this led me down a path of videos which contained all kinds of information about how animals were being treated in factories. I had no idea what was going on (And let me tell you, the companies don't want us to know. They actually spend BIG BUCKS making sure we never find out what really is going on behind those locked doors, security guards, and barbed wire fences.) After watching these films and being horrified by what I was seeing, I mad
